This Saturday the Albany State Golden Rams will host (4-1, 2-0) the Tigers of Edwards Waters University (2-3, 1-3) for their homecoming. If the Tigers wish to spoil the festivities, they certainly have their work cut out for them , as they face a Rams team that features a formidable running game and a stingy defense that has only allowed 36 points all season. The Tigers defense has been very offense-friendly, giving up 33.8 points per game, juxtaposing that with the toughness of the Albany State defense will likely spell a long day for Edward Waters.
The EWU passing game will have to have its act together, although that seem unlikely against this defense; it is only averaging 139 yards of output per ball game including two paltry sub-100 yard performances, 97 against Benedict and just 64 versus Tuskegee. Tigers quarterback Cedquan Smith has not attempted more than 26 passes in any of their games and his high water mark was the 181 yards, but with 2 picks and a touchdown, against a pathetic Morehouse team. If Waters has to put the game on Smith or David Johnson , whose best game this season was a 9-19 for 76 yards and an interception against Benedict, then the Tigers are in a maelstrom of trouble.
Marcuis Fulks and the Albany State are probably salivating, as outside of playing out-of their minds against Lane College, where they only surrendered 81 yards on the ground, have given up 179.25 yards per game on 5.1 yards per carry. On the season, the Golden Rams average 4.5 yards per rush.
Prediction
The powerful Albany State run game and stingy defense coupled with the inadequacies of Edward Waters offense and defensive generosity means the annual celebration down by the Flint River won’t be ruined.
